When I think about living.org”>retiring, I find myself wondering, “Is New Jersey a GOOD place to retire?” Well, let me tell you, after spending some time here, I’ve quite a few reasons to say yes – and some things to consider too. It’s not all sun and rainbows, but I believe you’ll see why New Jersey might truly be a great place to unwind and REALLY let go during your golden years.
Why New Jersey is Great for Retirees
When I first arrived in New Jersey, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But wow, I soon realized that New Jersey holds a lot of offers. One of the best things about New Jersey is the fact that it’s very close to significant cities such as New York and Philadelphia. If you love manners, arts, and dining, then you won’t ever be at a loss for things to do. Plus, everything’s just a very short drive away. That means when you retire, you’ll be able to experience the peacefulness of suburban life and yet still pop into the big city for a fun weekend. How cool is that?
I’m also a really big fan of the small towns here. Some of them are just so CHARMING – with cozy shops, FRIENDLY neighbors, and a genuine sense of community. I’ve discovered that New Jersey really has some EXCELLENT places to retire where I can live very comfortably and be a part of something special. I can walk to parks, take a short drive to the beach, and simply enjoy my life at my own pace.
Cost of Living
Now, I won’t lie – the cost of living in New Jersey is higher than in some other places. I noticed that pretty fast when I started looking for a house. But here’s the thing: you get what you pay for. Sure, you might pay a little more in property taxes or rent – but I’ve found that the quality of life here’s worth it. With so many OUTSTANDING hospitals, really good schools (if you’ve grandkids), and top-of-the-line public bureaus – it’s clear why people are willing to pay a bit more. And if you like great food, you’ll find that dining out here really is an amazing experience!
If you’re like me and want the convenience of being close to the city but still have a QUIET neighborhood, you’ll be able to find some good deals in areas that are a bit away from the bustle. It’ll take some effort, but I’m sure you’ll find a place that fits your requirements.
Weather
The weather in New Jersey is a bit of a mix. Winters will be cold and snowy, particularly in the northern parts of the state. However, for me, it’s almost fun in itself! I’ve always loved the winter exercise – like skiing and simply seeing the snow fall. Of course, if you’d rather live in a warmer climate, then New Jersey mayn’t be the place for you. However, for me, the different seasons themselves are part of the attraction. In the summer, the Jersey Shore is a FANTASTIC spot to visit. The beaches are clean, and the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. I enjoy spending afternoons at the beach, appreciating the waves and sun.
Healthcare
For me, one of the biggest reasons why New Jersey is a good place to retire is the healthcare itself. The state has some of the best hospitals and medical facilities in the entire country. If you’ve a particular health condition, then you’re in luck here because there will likely be a specialist very close to you. I’ve never felt anxious about medical treatment in New Jersey, which is one of the things I value most. I genuinely feel safe knowing that should I ever need medical treatment, I have access to some of the very best doctors and medical services in the world.
People
One of the things I know about New Jersey is its people. Sure, they’ve a reputation for being very forthright sometimes – but I genuinely find them to be welcoming and very kind. When I’m at a grocery store or just strolling through the neighborhood, I constantly meet very friendly faces. There’s a STRONG sense of community in New Jersey, which is something I greatly value as a retired person. I have discovered that when you retire, making new friends becomes important – and I’ve had no trouble whatsoever making new contacts in New Jersey itself.
Another reason New Jersey is a good place to retire is the sheer number of things you can really do. If you love nature, then New Jersey has truly beautiful parks and trails.
