As Bruce Chatwin wrote in ‘In Patagonia,’ the beauty of a place leaves a LASTING impression– whether you’re in distant lands like Patagonia or just down the road in Sonoma! Here are some ideas to make your trip UNFORGETTABLE!
Itinerary
What Are You Into? Make a list of all the things that excite you most about Sonoma! For example, if wine is high on your list (and why wouldn’t it be, given you’re in Sonoma?), then choose some ranches to visit. If being outdoors is a TOP priority, there are lots of options, with hiking trails and parks. There’s plenty of that around. Think about what combination would give you the most ENJOYABLE experience. Sonoma suggestions “Don’t Miss These” even if you’re not a big wine fan (or whatever else brought you here), chances are very good that by the time you leave, you’ll feel differently. That’s because nearly everyone who visits falls under its spell. Here are a few must-see spots while you’re visiting:
1) Sonoma Plaza. It’s not just any plaza– this is the heart of the town. There are lots of GREAT shops, places to eat, and galleries with things you may like.
2) Ranches and Wineries They’re what Sonoma County is famous for, so visit at least one (or several) from your list!! A good idea: book a wine tour in advance; it’ll give you a better understanding.
3) Sonoma Coast State Park. Take some time out by the beach at this State Park, which looks out over the Pacific Ocean. You’ll wanna take lots of photos here! The landscapes are BREATHTAKING.
Typical Day
Here’s What You Can Expect. You’ll probably start the day with breakfast at a LOCAL café, then maybe a morning exercise like a vineyard or one of the nearby parks. By the time noon rolls around, you might be ready for some of Sonoma’s great food. In the afternoon, take a hike, go shopping, or check out an art gallery. At the end of the day, you’ll want a nice dinner and a final glass of wine– perhaps one you hadn’t tried earlier?? And why not make it a wine sunset? The vineyards look AMAZING at golden hour as the sun sets; there’s nothingquite like it! Don’t forget your sunscreen! Last time, my cousin Tim turned lobster red after forgetting his… and it wasn’t a pretty sight! Before you set off, make sure you’ve packed COMFORTABLE shoes (you’ll be doing a lot of walking), a camera, sunscreen, a jacket (it gets chilly in the evenings), and a bottle of water. Sonoma is about so much more than just the wine (although that’s spectacular). Make sure there’s a good mix of everything when planning your day– allow time for nature, local food & drink, and don’t forget some downtime to relax as well!
